Oak Park-Northwood Neighborhood Association (OPNNA) cancels Parade/Events

Oak Park-Northwood Neighborhood Association (OPNNA) residents: Your OPNNA Board met this week and sadly decided to cancel any plans for a neighborhood parade with games/events etc for 2020.

With the spike in Coronavirus cases as well as city restrictions of large gatherings plus the fact that Northwood Presbyterian Church decided not to host this co-sponsored event with us, we reached this decision to cancel everything.Originally we just postponed the annual July 4th parade to a Labor Day Parade on Sep 7, however at this time, it does not seem likely for much improvement in the virus by even Sep.We are disappointed by this, but feel public safety overruled our desire to host a family friendly neighborhood event which we all enjoyed for many years!!Even Fiesta, Wurstfest, many Fall AH class reunions, etc also canceled for 2020 so we are only a small part of the overall area picture. We pray by 2021, life and activities can return to normal and we can once again gather to celebrate with our usual 4th of July activities!!

As for the Fall OPNNA Association meeting with elections, we are still on hold for that as well. Our meeting place at St Andrews UM Church has not reopened nor do they have a reopening date in the future at this time. The same holds true for most other area churches. Also, there are still city restrictions in place limiting the number of people allowed to attend a group meeting or gathering. We hope this situation will improve soon and an association meeting can be held in 2020.

Thanks so much for your understanding in these unprecedented times! We certainly are not pleased to cancel the parade nor postpone the Fall Association meeting, however, the current Coronavirus pandemic is causing many unpopular worldwide closures.

Also, please make note of the new OPNNA gmail for contacting our Board. It is opnna09@gmail.com

Thanks everyone. Stay safe and well. OPNNA Board
