The Star Room’s 350-Book Challenge at the Circle School!

This year, the Star Room has a big challenge: 350 different books by the end of the school year!

Ms. Elizabeth has challenged the kindergarteners to fill their year with stories, new ideas, and lots of time with books. And because they’re the Star Room, every book gets a special rating! After each story, students give it 1–5 stars based on how much they enjoyed it. We’re tracking not only how many books they read, but which ones become classroom favorites!

Reading a wide variety of books gives young children opportunities to hear new vocabulary, build background knowledge, explore different people and places, make connections, and learn about the world around them. These rich language experiences help build a strong foundation for literacy and learning that reaches well beyond kindergarten.

And when the Star Room finds a book they love? They’ll read it again—and again! Rereading familiar stories gives children opportunities to notice new details, practice new words, strengthen comprehension, and grow their confidence as readers.

Throughout the year, we’ll watch their book count grow, see which stories earn the most stars, and discover which books become Star Room favorites. Who will earn the coveted 5-star rating?
