Spadex Lounge, New Bar Opening on Broadway in 78209
A new bar and lounge is reportedly coming to 8217 Broadway St., next to the Broadway Oaks Animal Hospital and adjacent to The Hangar Bar and Grill.
According to plans filed with the City of San Antonio, the business owner is Olakunle Balogun. The lounge will serve food and alcoholic beverages, with an occupancy of around 45 customers.
78209 Magazine spoke with Mr. Balogun. He said plans are to open the business sometime in April. He said he has applied for a liquor license. But as of this writing, they are still awaiting some approvals from the City of San Antonio. Construction work is underway inside the lounge, which includes adding a second bathroom and building a small stage.
The parking lot on the Broadway St. side of the building is limited. It is also shared with a tattoo parlor and a vape/smoke shop. But, Mr. Balogun said, there is a large, paved lot behind the structure which can accommodate many vehicles.
Officers with the Oak Park Northwood Neighborhood Association expressed concern about possible noise and traffic resulting from the planned bar. They said they have been battling the nearby Bentley’s Bar over noise concerns for several months.
