Referral Based Veterinary Specialty Care

Referral Based Veterinary Specialty Care Now Available in San Antonio

San Antonio Veterinary Specialists (SAVS) opened in September 2023 and offers leading-edge diagnostics and treatments for dogs and cats from San Antonio’s best boardcertified specialists in the areas of oncology, ophthalmology and surgery.

Each SAVS specialty practice is individually owned by local veterinarians with already established roots in the San Antonio and surrounding areas. They have come together as partners with a common mission of providing the highest quality medicine and surgery with state-of-the-art technology, expertise and unmatched customer service in the veterinary specialty field.

SAVS is a boutique, referral-based veterinary clinic that sees cases by appointment only for each practice. SAVS will not be treating critically ill patients. These cases will be better served at 24-hour care facilities located throughout the city.

The three specialty practices located at SAVS include:

  • South Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology (STVO) Diagnosis and management of all ocular diseases, including medical and surgical treatments
  • Animal Cancer Center of Texas (ACCT) Diagnostics and treatment for all cancers, including medical therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy
  • South Texas Veterinary Surgery (STVS) Procedures focusing on soft tissue, oncological (cancer) and orthopedic surgeries

SAVS will also have an advanced radiology section that will help to support those patients already referred to the other practices when Computed Tomography (CT), digital radiographs, or high-resolution ultrasound are required for a diagnosis.

SAVS will take a collaborative and compassionate approach to create an environment that is rich in knowledge, offers clients a variety of medical and surgical treatment options, and is supportive of the choices our clients make. SAVS patients will be referred to by a network of more than 600 veterinarians in the state of Texas. SAVS currently is the only specialty hospital in the San Antonio and surrounding area in which every single veterinary specialist is board-certified in their respective field.

SAVS specialists will see mainly cats and dogs, but are also here to support various other animal-related organizations in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, such as San Antonio Zoo, Primarily Primates, Texas Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, Guide Dogs of Texas, SNIPSA, and the US Government – Military Working Dogs.

SAVS is the home to the SAVS Learning Institute (SLI) and Greller Gallery as well. SLI is a space dedicated to learning and skill development in the field of veterinary medicine. The SLI hosts various accredited continuing education (CE) events throughout the year and is the training center for SAVS businesses. The SLI is home to a library of veterinary texts and will host training courses and collaborative learning for veterinary technicians, hospital managers, nonprofits, interns, externs, residents, and students.

The Greller Gallery is an art gallery located within SAVS with the mission to engage the public with art that highlights the beauty of our planet and its inhabitants. Gallery owners Dr. Andrew and Faryl Greller have always believed in the power of art combined with compassionate veterinary care to help create an ambiance that promotes both healing and hope.

Faryl runs the gallery as an art initiative in support of their personal goals to be better community stewards, while Dr. Greller runs his veterinary practice (STVO), which is committed to helping his patients live happy and healthy lives with minimal discomfort and excellent vision.

The Grellers are committed to supporting local and national artists whose work strengthens nonprofits dedicated to various animal and environmental causes. To meet these ambitious goals, the Greller Gallery holds exhibitions throughout the year, providing visitors an opportunity to enjoy original artwork in various forms such as photography, abstract and realism paintings, mixed media, drawing, printmaking, short film, paper collage, and more.

Since June 2014, the Greller Gallery has raised close to $100,000 dollars for nonprofits. Beneficiaries of this support include the Center for Conservation & Research at San Antonio Zoo, Bat Conservation International, Nature Conservancy Group, Orangutan Foundation International, Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, San Antonio River Foundation, Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue, SNIPSA, Guide Dogs of Texas, San Antonio Humane Society, Therapy Animals of San Antonio, Train a Dog; Save a Warrior, Stray Cat Adoption of Texas, Animal Defense League and more.
