Patrons Disappointed as Greenhouse Coffee Announces Closing

Greenhouse

It opened in January 2024, and now, just eight months later, Greenhouse Coffee, 223 E Hildebrand Ave., is packing it in.

The Greenhouse Team posted the sad news on its Instagram page, “Unfortunately, it’s time to close our doors in Olmos Park. We loved serving you for the better part of 2024.

“We are going to miss our awesome regulars …Rising costs in real estate make it impossible for us to continue operating…” Chef-owner Rico Torres told the San Antonio Express-News, “The rents were just too high.”

But in announcing its closing, Greenhouse left the door open for a next time, a new life “in a home that will allow Greenhouse to grow and prosper.”

Greenhouse was opened by chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres. They pioneered the highly-rated Mexican restaurant Mixtli. It is still very much alive and in business at 812 S. Alamo Street in South Town.

But for now, until mid-September, Greenhouse will be pouring its last cups of coffee and serving its last breakfast goodies.
