PLENTY OF PAELLA
The sixth annual Corona Paella Challenge hosted by chef Johnny Hernandez and organized by Culinaria, returns March 15, 11a.m. – 4 p.m., on the grounds of The Pearl Brewery. Attendees will join fellow epicureans for a beautiful afternoon featuring 40 distinguished chefs from San Antonio, the U.S. and Mexico. Rounding out the event will be live entertainment, wines from Spain, delicious sangría, craft and imported beers and plenty of paella. Chefs and high school teams go head-to-head in competition to create the most impressive paella dishes cooked right before your eyes. The event strives to raise awareness for the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America-San Antonio at Pearl (CIA) and to increase the opportunities for scholarships and funding for young chefs interested in training in the food industry. DOWNTOWN DINER OPENS
A 1950s-style eatery specializing in burgers has opened at 125 Villita St. Downtown Diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, go for traditional favorites such as pancakes, biscuits and gravy and breakfast sandwiches with eggs and bacon. At lunch and dinner, you can order hamburgers, hot dogs, Frito pie and turkey burgers. Call in, order up, take out, or have a seat and sing along to tunes from the ‘50s. Open every day of the week.

ON THE ROCKS PUB OPENS
On the Rocks Pub, opened its nearly 6,000-square-foot bar underneath the McDonald’s at Commerce and Alamo Plaza. Currently, the bar has about 10 beers on tap, a larger selection of bottled beers and ciders and liquor. In the coming months, plans are to expand the beer and liquor lineup with an additional 16 craft beer taps and whiskey varieties. There are about a dozen TVs, pool tables and shuffleboard, and live music is expected throughout the week.

Otra Vez, one of SanAntonio’s most popular consignment shops is moving right around the corner from their current location this April. Look for them to be bigger and better at 4222 McCullough with double the space, tons of parking and a whole new look!

SPRING JAZZ AT THE FALLS IS BACK
The free jazz concerts at the Falls at The Shops at La Cantera have earned a reputation for artistic creativity. The outdoor event showcases and fosters an appreciation for all forms of jazz through high-quality live musical performances. This year’s 7:30-9:30 p.m. performances take place March 28, April 2, 9 and 11. The 2015 Spring Jazz at the Falls showcases Tom Braxton, saxophonist and composer, Saturday, March 28; Melina, R&B/jazz vocalist, Thursday, April 2; jazz crooner Ken Slavin, Thursday, April 9; and Cindy Bradley, sultry jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn, Thursday, April 11.
