The H-E-B Foundation recently completed construction of its new San Antonio home at 140 W. Sunset, in 78209.
The one-story, 10,000 sq. ft. building reportedly cost $8.5 million to build. It sits on a little over 1.5 acres. The Bexar County Tax Assessor values the property at nearly $5.5 million. The site was home to the Horse of a Different Color antique market. Some nine buildings sat on the property, which was nearly demolished by the time the foundation acquired it in August 2017.
The foundation was previously headquartered in Kerrville, where H-E-B grocery began. It maintains that office, too. Among other things, The foundation offers camps and retreats in the Hill Country. Recently, in San Antonio, it has targeted programming for children and families, as well as training for other nonprofits. The foundation had been renting space near Alamo Heights to build the new offices.
On its website, The Foundation writes that it maintains six campgrounds and retreat centers at its 1,900-acre ranch outside of Leakey, Texas: Echo Valley, Singing Hills, Laity Lodge, Linnet’s Wings, Windsong, and Headwaters. The Foundation welcomes opportunities to work with local nonprofit organizations.
