The youngest Saint Mary’s Hall Barons took part in a very special mission of kindness. In their first-ever service project, Kindergartners were asked to donate a new teddy bear to the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD), which would then give the bears to children experiencing crisis. But this wasn’t just about giving; it was about earning the gift. Each student was challenged to raise the money themselves, and they rose to the occasion with enthusiasm and determination. From raking leaves to tidying up their homes, the Kindergartners went above and beyond their usual chores to make their teddy bear donations possible.
Earlier this month, SAFD visited campus to collect the teddy bears and personally thank our young students for their thoughtful contributions. They had a fantastic time meeting the firefighters, asking questions, and even climbing aboard the big red fire truck. The visit turned into a celebration of service, with smiles, high-fives, and proud moments shared between students and their new firefighter friends.
The sweetest moment came when the firefighters explained how each teddy bear would bring comfort to a child in need. Kindergartners listened with wide eyes and full hearts, understanding that their hard work and generosity would make a real difference. It was a beautiful lesson in empathy and action, and proof that even the smallest hands can make the biggest impact.
