Honoring Selena: A Día de los Muertos Tribute Through Art and Memory
SMH students enrolled in Echoes in the Borderlands: An Interdisciplinary Study of Selena Quintanilla and Spanish III welcomed a special guest to campus, Regina Moya, a celebrated artist, writer, and SMH parent. Moya, whose work is showcased in San Antonio, Mexico, and New York City, visited to share the inspiration behind her upcoming 2025–26 Día de los Muertos exhibit at the Pearl.
Her visit sparked meaningful conversations about cultural memory, artistic expression, and the enduring legacy of Selena Quintanilla. In tribute to the beloved Tejano singer and cultural icon, students collaborated to construct a vibrant ofrenda honoring Selena. The altar, rich with symbolism and student creativity, serves as both a celebration of Día de los Muertos and a reflection of Selena’s impact on music, identity, and borderland narratives.
We invite the community to visit the ofrenda, located on the Bell Tower side of the library, and join us in remembering and celebrating a voice that continues to echo across generations.
