The Alamo Heights Fire Department was recently recognized by a prestigious national organization for outstanding service to the community.
Hugh Gibson, Manager, ISO Community Mitigation Hazard, presented the award at the Alamo Heights City Council meeting on July 24. The Fire Department achieved an ISO-1 classification as an exemplary fire suppression program. The designation includes an evaluation of communications infrastructure, fire mitigation geographics, the ability of the department to launch an effective initial attack on first alarm, water supply, and community risk reduction.
The department joins the elite classification of ISO #1, with approximately 90 other departments in the state, out of 2855, and 474 out of 38,492 nationwide.
The ISO fire rating identifies the capabilities of a local fire department. There may be benefits to home and commercial property owners with potentially lower property insurance rates.
AH Fire Chief Michael Gdovin thanked the firefighters, Dispatcher Supervisor Colleen Ferruzzi, Public Works Director Pat Sullivan, Utilities Superintendent Mark McGinnis, and Community Development Services Department Director Lety Hernandez for their dedication to public safety.
