Ford Powell & Carson, Coral Studio Completes Pocket Park Design for City of Alamo Heights
Ford Powell & Carson, in collaboration with Coral Studio, has completed the design of a pocket park next to the Alamo Heights municipal pool, opening Summer 2026. The quarter-acre park includes natural play equipment, an open lawn, a pavilion with food service, and restrooms.
The project addresses a simple need: Alamo Heights lacked public spaces where people, especially families with young children, can gather. Located in an existing parking lot, between the municipal pool, baseball fields, and neighborhood streets, this park will activate what’s already there and serve multiple users: Families with young children have a safe, contained place to play year-round. Runners heading to the trail can stop for water and restrooms. Pool visitors can extend their time at the complex.

Designed for its place, the pavilion mirrors the Alamo Heights pool, with perforated brick walls in a lattice pattern to provide privacy from the batting cages while still allowing airflow. A floating roof provides shade. Two unisex accessible restrooms are integrated into the existing pool facility. A full perimeter fence keeps children contained while the space remains visually open.
“It’s a jewel box of space,” said Nathan Perez, principal-in-charge at Ford Powell & Carson. “It’s designed for all ages—a place for the community to gather year-round.”
