The Scoop

People have been driving by the shell of a service station, no pun intended, on McCullough in Olmos Park for some time now. Word on the street was that the famed chef Andrew Weismann had plans to open a restaurant at this location, but this is not  the case. After speaking with Ruben Martinez at Cantwell Mattress, located next to this parcel, I learned it was purchased by Paloma Blanca Enterprises, which also bought two adjacent single-family homes. I have not spoken personally to Paloma Blanca about their plans. However, my knowledge is that they will be building new offices for their business. They currently have an office near this location. Construction has not started yet, so we will have to wait a while to see what and when they will build.

Speaking of Olmos Park, the landmark known as Olmos Pharmacy has made some changes. Of course, they still have the live music and great milkshakes, but now they have a full bar. As many of you may know, they recently stopped serving beer and wine because of a paperwork glitch. Their new license now allows them to serve cocktails while you are enjoying the live music.

On the subject of live music, I went to JAZZ, the new live music club at The Pearl, for a party. Great atmosphere, good food, and a 10-piece jazz band was playing that night. Make sure you have a reservation if you decide to try this place! We had reservations, and all went well. However, I saw at least 15 to 20 people turned away at the door because all the tables were taken. Other than the dance floor, tables take up most of the space in this small venue. It is a lot of fun, and I do recommend it. You will hear from me again next month.

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!
